"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop and look fear in the face...you must do the thing you think you cannot do."
-Eleanor Roosevelt.
Looking closer into strength, courage and confidence let's see what wisdom we can decipher out of Eleanor's advice. We need Lady Wisdom on our side no matter what's happening in our lives. Gaining strength, courage and confidence can be a little intimidating now and then.
I was a courageous tomboy who liked to climb trees and see how high I could go and still be safe. lol! I was that girl that enjoyed fishing, worms, camping, dirt, motorcycles, bugs, you name it, whatever proposed a challenge, my adrenaline kicked in. I still enjoy challenges, but now that I am older, some challenges are more than just a notion. I'm sure you can relate, so what should we do about it? How do we take that first step to "Do It Afraid"?
Applying this knowledge correctly will help us to be successful in life. If you think about it, confidence comes when we discover new abilities and put them into action. It will cause us to move out of our comfort zones and develop. Say to yourself right now, "I can do all things." The key is to convince yourself that it is true, and change your self-talk to match 'The Little Blue Engine' who said to herself, "I think I can, I think I can, I know I can." Open up the path of discovering who you really are, your potential, and do the thing you thought you couldn't do. Live regret free and be a success story, wow, that's exciting in itself!
At one point in life I would cringe at the thought of facing something I feared. Somewhere in my journey I became less adventurous and more afraid to take risks. I'm not sure what was going on in my life at that time. Life sometimes makes us feel that way, I guess. Fear tried to knock me down for the count, but thank God I got back up. I encourage you to do the same, my friend. Don't let fear have control over your future and don't let fear defeat you. My husband recently said to me, "Some things, if you face them now with courage, you don't have to face them later in fear." Wow!
Thank goodness the Serenity Prayer came to my mind one day. We've all heard or seen this prayer posted somewhere before. Let's look at the word courage. Dictionary.com says it is the quality shown by someone who decides to do something difficult..., even though they may be afraid. Look at that, 'Do It Afraid' my friend.
Don't live your life in regret, don't be a coward who lacks courage, and don't live a timid and fearful lifestyle. Live life for real because it offers us so much more. You may be the next multi-millionaire or billionaire who discovered how to permanently remove hair from growing where we women don't like it (on our chins, lol!).
My final encouragement: Go back to school, apply for that promotion, learn new things, "Do It Afraid". Gain strength, gain courage, and gain confidence! After all, isn't fear just False Evidence Appearing Real?
Walk in Wisdom!
